You Are Not Your Past

Devotional

There is a good chance you have replayed a moment in your life more times than you can count. A decision you regret. A failure you cannot shake. A version of yourself you wish no one remembered. You have carried it quietly, and somewhere along the way, it started to feel like your identity. But here is the truth: your past can explain how you got here, but it does not get to decide where you are going. The Apostle Paul understood this deeply. Before he wrote some of the most encouraging words in the Bible, he had done things that were genuinely terrible. He had people imprisoned and killed for their faith. If anyone had reason to stay buried under the weight of his history, it was Paul. Yet Paul made a choice. He chose to press forward. Not because the past did not matter, but because he understood that God had something ahead worth reaching for. You are not the sum of your worst moments. You are not the label someone placed on you. You are not stuck in the version of yourself that you are most ashamed of. God sees you fully, and He is not finished with you yet. This week, we are going to spend five days exploring what it looks like to stop letting the past define you and start pressing toward everything God has ahead. It starts with simply believing that forward is possible.

Bible Verse

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:14

Reflection Question

What is one label from your past that you have been allowing to define your present, and where did that label actually come from?

Quote

Your past can explain you without having to define you. -Pastor Bo

Prayer

Lord, thank You that my past does not have the final word over my life. Help me to believe today that You are not finished with me, and give me the courage to take one step forward. Amen.
