Devotional
There is a version of faith that sounds spiritual but is actually just control in disguise. It says things like, “God, if you really love me, then prove it.” It looks for signs before it will trust. It sets conditions on obedience. Satan tried this with Jesus. He quoted scripture and told Jesus to throw Himself off the temple so the angels would catch Him. It sounded like a faith move. But Jesus saw right through it.
Real faith does not test God. It trusts Him. This is one of the harder lessons to sit with, especially when life is painful and God feels silent. It is easy to trust God when things are going well. The real test is whether we trust Him when they are not. God is not a vending machine. He is not obligated to perform on our timeline to prove His love. His love was already proven at the cross. What He asks of us is not perfect understanding. He asks for trust.
That kind of faith says, “God, even if You do not do what I want, I still trust You.” That is not passive. That is powerful. It is the kind of faith that holds steady when everything around you is shaking. You do not need a sign to keep going. You need to remember what God has already done, and trust that He is still working.
Bible Verse
Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” – Luke 4:12
Reflection Question
Are there any conditions you have placed on your trust in God, areas where you are waiting for Him to prove Himself before you fully surrender?
Quote
Faith isn’t forcing God to prove Himself. Faith trusts God without demanding a sign. -Pastor Jen
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the moments I have demanded proof instead of choosing trust. Grow my faith to believe in Your goodness even when I cannot see what You are doing. Amen.
