Let God Work on You First

Devotional

There is a temptation that shows up in a lot of well-meaning believers. It is the urge to fix everyone around you. To correct, to post, to tell, to expose. And sometimes it feels spiritual, like you are doing God a favor. But here is something worth sitting with: God did not ask you to be the Holy Spirit for everyone else. Before you try to address what you see in someone else’s life, there is a better first step. Ask God to work on you. Not as a delay tactic, but as a genuine act of humility. Because the truth is, you cannot offer someone something you have not received yourself. You cannot lead someone toward healing if you are not willing to be healed. This is not about staying silent forever or never speaking truth. It is about the order of things. Let God examine you first. Let Him do His work in you. Then, from that place of honesty and humility, you will actually have something real to offer the people around you. The most powerful thing you can do for someone else is let God fully have you first.

Bible Verse

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way.” – Psalm 139:23-24

Reflection Question

In what area of your life are you more focused on changing someone else than on allowing God to change you?

Quote

“Before he uses you to help somebody else, before you try to fix them, before you try to criticize them, before you try to post about them, before you talk about them, before you tell everybody else what they’re doing wrong, let God work on you.”

Prayer

Lord, before I try to help anyone else, help me. Work in me first, and make me someone who reflects Your grace and truth. Amen.
