Devotional
Honor often requires us to set aside our personal preferences to fulfill our responsibilities. This principle applies powerfully to family relationships. Maybe we’d prefer not to make that weekly phone call to check on our aging parents, or perhaps we’d rather not adjust our schedule to accommodate family needs. But honor isn’t about what we want – it’s about what we owe. When we choose responsibility over preference, we demonstrate true maturity and create stronger family bonds. This choice might not always feel comfortable, but it builds character and strengthens the fabric of our families and society.
Bible Verse
“Honor your father and mother (this is the first commandment with a promise).” – Ephesians 6:2
Reflection Question
What personal preferences might you need to set aside to better honor your parents or fulfill your role as a parent?
Quote Honor is when I deny my personal preferences so that I may fulfill my responsibilities.
Prayer
Dear God, give me the strength to choose responsibility over convenience. Help me honor my family commitments even when they conflict with my preferences. Amen.
