Devotional
God’s commandments aren’t arbitrary rules designed to limit our enjoyment of life. Rather, they are loving boundaries established to protect us from harm and guide us toward fulfillment. The seventh commandment—’You shall not commit adultery’—reveals God’s heart for sexual purity and His design for intimacy within marriage. When God established this commandment, He wasn’t merely setting a moral standard; He was creating a foundation for healthy relationships, families, and communities. Sexual intimacy is powerful—it creates bonds, builds trust, and when experienced within marriage, reflects the covenant relationship between Christ and His church. God’s design for sexuality isn’t restrictive but protective. He knows that without boundaries, what was meant to be beautiful becomes destructive. Sexual sin doesn’t just affect us individually; it ripples outward, damaging our relationships with others and with God Himself. Today, consider how God’s commandments, particularly regarding sexual purity, are expressions of His love rather than limitations on your freedom. His boundaries aren’t meant to diminish joy but to protect the profound intimacy He designed for marriage.
Bible Verse
“You shall not commit adultery.” – Exodus 20:14
Reflection Question
How might viewing God’s commandments as protective rather than restrictive change your perspective on sexual purity?
Quote
“God will not allow you to define your morality by your feelings. You cannot define and base your morality on how you feel. It is based solely and based purely on the word of God.”
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your loving boundaries. Help me to see Your commandments as expressions of Your care for me rather than restrictions on my freedom. Give me a heart that desires purity and honors Your design for sexuality. In Jesus’ name, amen.
