Devotional
When the angel of the Lord found Hagar in the wilderness, something remarkable happened. This Egyptian servant girl, who had been treated as property and driven away by mistreatment, was seen by God. Not only seen, but known intimately. The angel didn’t need to ask who she was—He already knew her name. He knew her story, her pain, and her future. In response to this divine encounter, Hagar gave God a name: “El Roi,” the God who sees me. This name reveals something profound about God’s character. He is not distant or detached from our struggles. He sees us in our highest moments and our lowest valleys. He knows us on our best days and on our worst. Nothing about our lives escapes His loving gaze. There is tremendous comfort in being truly seen. In a world where we often feel invisible or misunderstood, God sees us completely and loves us unconditionally. He doesn’t just see our outward appearance or actions; He sees our hearts, our hurts, and our hopes. Today, whatever you’re facing, remember that you are seen by God. You don’t need to hide your struggles or pretend to be someone you’re not. The God who sees you loves you just as you are.

Bible Verse

“So she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, ‘You are a God of seeing,’ for she said, ‘Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.'” – Genesis 16:13

Reflection Question

How does knowing that God sees you completely—both your struggles and your strengths—change how you approach Him today?

Quote “I am the God who sees you on your best days and knows you on your worst days. I’m the God who sees you when you’re on the mountain, and I see you when you’re in the valley. I see you when you feel victorious, and I see you when you struggle.”

Prayer

El Roi, the God who sees me, thank You for Your intimate knowledge of my life. Thank You for seeing me at my best and at my worst, yet loving me the same. Help me to live in the confidence of being fully known and fully loved by You. May I never forget that Your eyes are always upon me. Amen.
