Devotional
Life’s struggles often feel like battles against people, circumstances, or even ourselves. We fight against difficult relationships, challenging situations, and our own inner demons. But what if our real struggle is with God? Jacob’s transformative night at the Jabbok River reveals a profound truth: sometimes what appears to be wrestling with life’s circumstances is actually wrestling with God Himself. Jacob had spent years fighting against people and manipulating situations, only to discover that his true struggle was with the Divine. Many of us live in perpetual struggle, exhausting ourselves fighting battles on all fronts without realizing that God is inviting us into a different kind of wrestling match – one that leads to blessing rather than burnout. When we recognize that our struggle is ultimately with God, everything changes. Instead of fighting against His will or trying to control outcomes, we can surrender to His purposes. Instead of manipulating circumstances, we can trust His timing. Instead of seeking others’ approval, we can rest in His acceptance. Today, consider whether your struggles might actually be invitations to encounter God more deeply. Perhaps the resistance you feel isn’t something to overcome but someone to embrace.

Bible Verse

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” – 1 Corinthians 1

Reflection Question

What current struggle in your life might actually be an invitation to wrestle with God rather than people or circumstances?

Quote
“Most of the time when you encounter God, it is through wrestling.”

Prayer

God, help me recognize when I’m struggling against You rather than with You. Transform my battles into opportunities for deeper encounter. I want to stop fighting against Your purposes and start wrestling toward Your blessing. Meet me in my struggles today. Amen.
