Devotional

Life’s transitions can be jarring. One day, everything feels secure with trusted guides leading the way. The next, you’re standing alone, facing challenges that seem insurmountable. Joshua knew this feeling all too well. After Moses died, Joshua wasn’t just losing a mentor—he was losing the greatest human leader the world had ever known while simultaneously inheriting the responsibility to lead God’s people into the Promised Land. Perhaps you’ve experienced something similar. Maybe you’ve lost a spiritual parent, a mentor, or a leader who always seemed to have the answers. In those moments, it’s natural to wonder: How will I ever move forward without them? Joshua’s story teaches us that while human leaders may leave us, God never does. The same God who worked through Moses was now ready to work through Joshua. The same is true for us today. God doesn’t limit His power to one generation or one leader. His faithfulness extends to all who follow Him. When you feel inadequate to fill someone else’s shoes, remember that God isn’t asking you to be them. He’s asking you to be faithful with what He’s given you. Your calling isn’t to replicate someone else’s journey but to walk your own path of obedience.

Bible Verse

“After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: ‘Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites.'” – Joshua 1:1-2

Reflection Question

What person have you depended on spiritually who is no longer present in your life, and how might God be calling you to step forward in faith without them?

Quote “What do you do when that person you’ve depended upon all of your life is no longer there? What do you do when that person that you always knew could get a prayer through?”

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the mentors and leaders You’ve placed in my life. When I feel inadequate to move forward without them, remind me that You are the constant presence that never leaves. Help me to trust not in human strength but in Your unfailing power. Give me courage to step into the calling You have for me, knowing that the same God who worked through others is working through me. Amen.
