Devotional
Have you ever considered that everything in your life – your home, your career, your relationships, even your children – is actually on loan from God? This perspective can feel unsettling at first, but it’s actually liberating. Job understood this truth deeply. When he lost everything in a single day, his response wasn’t bitterness but worship, because he recognized that God had simply reclaimed what was always His. We live in a culture that emphasizes ownership and accumulation. We work hard to build our portfolios, secure our futures, and create stability for our families. These aren’t wrong pursuits, but they become dangerous when we forget the ultimate source of everything we have. When we truly grasp that we’re stewards rather than owners, it changes how we hold our blessings. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t care for what God has entrusted to us – quite the opposite. Good stewards are responsible and faithful with what they’ve been given. But they also hold things with open hands, ready to release them when the true Owner calls them back. This perspective protects us from the devastating blow of unexpected loss and helps us find gratitude even in seasons of plenty. Job’s story reminds us that our security doesn’t come from what we possess but from who possesses us. When we belong to God, we can face uncertainty with peace, knowing that our true treasure is secure in heaven.

Bible Verse

‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.’ – Job 1:21
