Devotional

You’ll never fully discover who you are in Christ without the church. This isn’t about attending services or fulfilling religious obligations – it’s about being part of Christ’s body where your identity is both revealed and refined through authentic community. There are things about yourself that you’ll never know unless someone else tells you. You have blind spots, hidden gifts, and untapped potential that only become visible through the eyes of fellow believers who know you well. The church isn’t just where you go to worship – it’s where you go to become who God created you to be. In healthy Christian community, people speak truth into your life. They see your gifts when you can’t see them yourself. They call out your potential when you’re focused on your problems. They hold you accountable when you’re drifting from your identity in Christ, and they celebrate with you when you’re walking in your calling. This requires vulnerability and commitment. You can’t discover your identity in Christ through surface-level relationships or casual church attendance. It happens in the context of doing life together – serving together, struggling together, growing together. How you treat the church reveals how you treat Christ Himself, because the church is His body. When you invest in community, you’re investing in your own spiritual growth and identity formation.

Bible Verse

‘And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.’ – Ephesians 4:11-12

Reflection Question

How might deeper involvement in Christian community help you discover aspects of your identity in Christ that you’ve never seen before?

Quote

You’ll never fully be who you are in Christ without the church. This is his body. How you treat the church is also how you treat the head.

Prayer

Lord, help me embrace authentic Christian community and be open to what others see in me. Give me courage to be vulnerable and committed to growing together with fellow believers.
