Devotional
Jacob’s life was a mess. He had deceived his father, stolen his brother’s blessing, and was now fleeing for his life with nothing but the clothes on his back. When exhaustion overtook him, he found a rock to use as a pillow – hardly the comfort of home. But it was in this desolate place, at his absolute lowest point, that God chose to visit him. Through a dream of a ladder connecting earth to heaven, God renewed His promises and reminded Jacob that he wasn’t alone. When Jacob woke up, he transformed that ordinary rock into a memorial, declaring it would be God’s house. Sometimes our rock-bottom moments become the very places where we encounter God most powerfully. When we’ve made a mess of our lives and feel like we’re sleeping on stones, God shows up. He doesn’t wait for us to clean up our act or find a more comfortable place. He meets us exactly where we are, in our brokenness and desperation, and reminds us that His promises are greater than our failures.
Bible Verse
‘When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”‘ – Genesis 28:16

Can you think of a ‘rock bottom’ moment in your life where you later recognized God’s presence, even though you didn’t see it at the time?
