Devotional
The women who came to Jesus’ tomb experienced something profound. These women would be the first to discover and proclaim the truth of the resurrection, but they were first met with a hard dose of reality. They arrived with burial spices, expecting to find a corpse, but instead encountered angels asking a life-changing question: “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive?”
The women’s mistake wasn’t their devotion; it was their limited expectations. Jesus had told His followers repeatedly that He would rise on the third day, yet they still came prepared for death. Sometimes our faith operates the same way – we believe in Jesus intellectually, but our actions reveal we’re still looking among the dead for what only the living Christ can provide.
The resurrection changes everything because it means Jesus isn’t just a historical figure or a good teacher – He’s alive, present, and actively working in our lives today. When we grasp this truth, we stop searching in all the wrong places and start experiencing the abundant life He promised.
Bible Verse
And he said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. – Luke 24:5-7 (King James Version)
Reflection Question
Where in your life are you currently “looking among the dead” for something that only the living Christ can provide?
Quote
Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn’t here. He has risen from the dead.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me stop searching for life in dead places and instead find my hope, purpose, and joy in You alone. Open my eyes to see that You are alive and present in my life today.
