Devotional

Jesus has X-ray vision when it comes to the human heart. He looked at the rich young man and immediately identified what he truly treasured: his wealth. This wasn’t about money being inherently evil, but about what had captured this man’s heart. Jesus knows what we keep in the secret places of our hearts – what we think about when our minds wander, what we worry about losing, what we work hardest to protect. Our treasure reveals our true priorities. For some, it might be career success, reputation, relationships, or security. For others, it could be control, comfort, or recognition. The challenge isn’t necessarily to get rid of these things, but to examine whether they’ve become more precious to us than Jesus Himself. When something else occupies the throne of our hearts, there’s no room for Jesus to reign. He can’t move in until we’re willing to move out what we’ve been treasuring. The good news is that Jesus Himself is the treasure of heaven – and He offers us something infinitely more valuable than anything this world can provide.

Bible Verse

‘At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.’ – Mark 10:22

Reflection Question

What do you find yourself thinking about, worrying about, or protecting most – and how does that reveal what you truly treasure?

Quote

Jesus looks into every heart and he knows what you keep there. He knows what you really love.

Prayer

Lord, search my heart and show me what I treasure more than You. Help me hold loosely to earthly things so I can hold tightly to You.
