Devotional
The rich young man faced a moment of truth. He could choose between earthly treasure that fluctuates with economies and circumstances, or heavenly treasure that never decays or disappoints. Tragically, he chose what he could see and touch over what Jesus promised. This choice reveals something profound about human nature: we often prefer the familiar struggle over the unknown blessing. The man’s wealth gave him a sense of control and security, even though it was ultimately temporary. Jesus offered him eternal life and a relationship that would never end, but it required letting go of what felt safe. We face similar choices daily. Do we choose the approval of people over the approval of God? Do we choose temporary comfort over eternal purpose? Do we choose what we can control over what God wants to give us? The man walked away sad because he realized what he was giving up, but he wasn’t willing to trust Jesus with his future. The beautiful truth is that Jesus never asks us to give up something good without offering us something infinitely better in return.
Bible Verse
‘At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.’ – Mark 10:22
Reflection Question
What ‘safe’ or familiar things might you be clinging to that prevent you from fully trusting Jesus with your future?
Quote
He could have had eternal life, but he preferred his earthly life.
Prayer
Father, give me the courage to choose Your eternal treasures over temporary securities. Help me trust that what You offer is always better than what I’m holding onto.
