Devotional

There is something quietly dangerous about thinking you already know someone. The people of Nazareth had watched Jesus grow up. They knew His mother, His brothers, His trade. And that familiarity became the very thing that kept them from receiving what He had for them. It is easy to read that story and shake your head at them. But if you have been in church for years, you know how this creeps in. The songs start to feel routine. The sermons blend together. Scripture becomes something you check off rather than something that speaks to you. Jesus was standing right in front of the people of Nazareth, and they missed Him entirely. Not because He was hiding, but because they assumed they already had Him figured out. Here is the encouragement: awareness is the first step. The moment you recognize that familiarity might be dulling your faith, you are already in a better place than those who never noticed at all. God is not hiding from you. He is present, patient, and ready to meet you with fresh eyes if you are willing to bring them.

Bible Verse

“And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read.” – Luke 4:16

Reflection Question

Is there an area of your faith, whether worship, prayer, or Scripture, where routine has quietly replaced genuine encounter with God?

Quote

“Have we become so familiar with the things of God that we’ve gotten comfortable enough that it doesn’t shake us anymore?”

Prayer

Lord, forgive me for the times I have let familiarity replace wonder. Open my eyes today to see You as if for the very first time.
