Rules without relationship feel like a cage. But when you understand why the rules exist, everything changes. God did not give us His Word to show off His authority or to see how long we could stay inside the lines. He gave it because He loves us.
Every commandment, every principle, every instruction in Scripture is a reflection of His heart toward us. It is the kind of love a good parent has when they tell a child not to touch a hot stove. The boundary is not about control. It is about protection. This reframes everything.
When you read a passage of Scripture that challenges you or asks something difficult of you, you are not reading the demands of a distant ruler. You are reading the heart of a Father who knows exactly how you were designed to live and wants you to experience the fullness of that life. The Pharisees in Jesus’s day had turned the law into a performance. The Sadducees had nearly abandoned it. Jesus cut through both extremes with one answer. Love. That was always the point.
When you approach God’s Word as a love letter rather than a rulebook, it stops feeling like obligation and starts feeling like an anchor. Let that shift happen in you today.
