Devotional
In our social media-driven world, we’re constantly encouraged to focus on ourselves – our image, our desires, our comfort. This self-centered mindset can subtly creep into our spiritual lives, distorting our view of what it means to follow Jesus. Just like Peter, who rebuked Jesus when faced with the reality of the cross, we often resist God’s plans when they don’t align with our preferences. The path to true discipleship requires a fundamental shift in perspective – moving from self-focus to God-focus. When we begin to see life through God’s lens rather than our own, everything changes. Our priorities align with His, our hearts soften to His leading, and our lives reflect His character rather than our own desires.
Bible Verse
“Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, ‘God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You!’ But He turned and said to Peter, ‘Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.'” – Matthew 16:21
Reflection Question
In what areas of your life do you find yourself resisting God’s direction because it doesn’t align with your personal preferences or plans?
Prayer
Lord, help me recognize when I’m viewing life through my own lens rather than Yours. Give me the courage to set aside my preferences and truly follow Your leading. Amen.
