Devotional
When Mary arrived at Elizabeth’s house, something beautiful happened. Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, immediately recognized the significance of Mary’s pregnancy and spoke prophetic encouragement over her young cousin. This wasn’t just a nice family visit – it was a demonstration of how God designed Christian community to function. Elizabeth didn’t minimize Mary’s situation or offer empty platitudes. Instead, she spoke truth, affirmation, and blessing. She helped Mary see her circumstances through God’s eyes. This is what authentic Christian community looks like – people who speak life into each other’s situations and help one another recognize God’s hand at work. We were never meant to walk through life’s challenges alone. God has designed us as communal beings who need each other to become fully who He’s called us to be. There are parts of your identity in Christ that will only be revealed through the encouragement and insight of other believers. There are aspects of God’s character you’ll only discover when someone else speaks truth into your life. Just as Elizabeth was there for Mary in a crucial moment, God has placed people in your life who can offer the encouragement you need. And He’s also positioned you to be that source of strength for others. The person sitting next to you at church, the friend going through a difficult season, the family member questioning God’s plan – they may need you to be their Elizabeth today.

Bible Verse
‘At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea’ – Luke 1:39

Reflection Question
Who in your life might need you to speak encouragement and truth into their situation, and who has God placed around you to speak into yours?

Quote
“God has so designed us as communal beings that we will never be fully who we are supposed to be in God without one another.” -Pastor Jerry Madden

Prayer
God, help me to be the kind of friend who speaks life and truth into others’ lives. Show me who needs encouragement today, and surround me with people who will help me see Your work in my own life.
