Devotional
There’s a delicate balance we must learn between planning wisely for the future and living fully in the present. Jesus taught us to pray for our daily bread – not weekly bread or monthly bread, but daily bread. He understood that we need just enough provision and focus for today, trusting Him for tomorrow when it comes. Many of us live in a constant state of “when then” thinking. When I get that promotion, then I’ll have time for my family. When the kids are older, then I’ll serve in ministry. When I retire, then I’ll focus on my relationship with God. But this mindset robs us of the opportunities and relationships God has placed before us right now. Jesus warned us not to be anxious about tomorrow because tomorrow will have its own troubles. This isn’t permission to be irresponsible, but rather an invitation to trust God with our future while being fully present today. The person sitting across from you at lunch needs your attention now. Your child asking for help with homework needs you now. The neighbor going through a difficult time needs encouragement now. Balance means making wise decisions today that don’t imprison your tomorrow, while also refusing to let tomorrow’s concerns steal today’s joy and opportunities. God has given you this day – this very moment – as a gift. Don’t let worry about what might happen rob you of what is happening.

Bible Verse

‘Give us today our daily bread.’ – Matthew 6:11

Reflection Question

What future worry or plan is currently preventing you from being fully present and engaged in your relationships and responsibilities today?

Quote Don’t let foolish decisions today imprison your tomorrow. But don’t let a fixation on tomorrow rob you of today.

Prayer

Lord, help me find the balance between wise planning and present living. Take my anxieties about tomorrow and help me trust You with my future while I focus on loving and serving You today. Amen.
