Devotional

The rich young man thought Jesus was asking for too much, but the reality is exactly the opposite. Jesus wasn’t asking him to give up everything for nothing – He was asking him to give up nothing for everything. What we consider valuable in this world is temporary at best. Our wealth, achievements, and earthly securities will all fade away. But what Jesus offers – eternal life, unconditional love, purpose, and a relationship that transcends death – these are treasures that never diminish. When we understand this exchange, following Jesus becomes the most logical choice we could make. We’re not sacrificing; we’re investing in the only currency that matters eternally. The man’s sadness reveals that he understood the value of what Jesus offered, but he couldn’t bring himself to let go of what felt certain. Yet Jesus promises that those who lose their lives for His sake will find true life. This isn’t about religious performance or earning God’s favor – it’s about recognizing that Jesus Himself is the treasure worth everything. When we see Him clearly, giving up anything else becomes not a sacrifice, but a privilege.

Bible Verse

‘At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.’ – Mark 10:22

How does viewing your relationship with Jesus as gaining everything rather than giving up things change your perspective on following Him?

You may think he’s asking you for a lot. He’s asking you for nothing, but he’s giving you everything.

Jesus, help me see that following You isn’t about loss but about gain. Open my eyes to the incredible treasure You are offering me.
