Devotional
The motivation behind our obedience to God matters deeply. When we serve God primarily out of fear of punishment or desire for reward, we miss the heart of relationship He desires. True obedience flows from a heart that has experienced God’s mercy and grace. It’s a response to His goodness rather than an attempt to earn His favor. This understanding transforms our approach to God’s commands from burden to blessing, from duty to delight.
Bible Verse
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” – Exodus 20:2
Reflection Question
What motivates your obedience to God – fear, duty, or response to His grace? How might this motivation need to shift?
Quote: “I don’t serve God because he’s a God of the law. I serve him because he’s a God of mercy and a God of grace and a God of provision.”
Prayer
Merciful God, thank You for Your grace and provision in my life. Help me serve You out of love and gratitude rather than obligation. May Your mercy continue to transform my heart. Amen.
