Devotional
The rich young man approached Jesus with a consumer mindset. He wanted to know what small addition he could make to his already successful life to secure eternal life. It’s like asking, ‘What accessory can I add to complete my outfit?’ But Jesus doesn’t work that way. He’s not interested in being squeezed into the margins of our busy lives or becoming just another item on our spiritual checklist. Jesus demands to be the foundation, not an addition. When we try to add Jesus to our existing priorities, relationships, and ambitions, we miss the point entirely. He’s calling us to rebuild our entire lives with Him as the cornerstone. This isn’t about adding church attendance or prayer time to an unchanged lifestyle. It’s about allowing Jesus to transform every aspect of who we are and how we live. The beautiful truth is that when Jesus becomes our foundation, everything else in life finds its proper place and purpose. What seems like a loss of control actually becomes the path to true freedom and fulfillment.
Bible Verse
‘Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”‘ – Mark 10:21
Reflection Question
In what ways might you be treating Jesus as an accessory to your life rather than the foundation of it?
Quote
Jesus is not an accessory that you add to the life you have built. No, he would say you can only build on one foundation, and that foundation is him.
Prayer
Jesus, I don’t want to just add You to my life – I want You to be my life. Help me surrender control and build everything on You as my foundation.
