Devotional
It’s one of the most puzzling contradictions in our spiritual lives: we can readily testify about God’s faithfulness in the past, yet when we face a current challenge, we doubt He’ll come through this time. We remember how He provided before, how He healed before, how He made a way before – but somehow we convince ourselves that this situation is different, too big, or too complicated for Him to handle. The Samaritan woman had heard the stories of Jacob, the patriarch who had encountered God at this very well. She knew the history, but she couldn’t see the present reality of God’s power standing right in front of her. This pattern reveals something important about human nature: we tend to put God’s power in the past tense while living in present-tense doubt. But the same God who parted the Red Sea is the same God who wants to part your current sea of troubles. The same Jesus who turned water into wine can transform your current situation. His power isn’t diminished by time, and His love for you hasn’t changed. What He did before, He can do again – because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Bible Verse
‘Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”‘ – John 4:10
Reflection Question
What past victory in your life can you use as evidence that God is able to handle your current challenge?
Quote
We can look back and readily testify of everything God has done. And yet we get in the current battle and we doubt he’s going to be able to do it this time.
Prayer
Lord, help me connect Your past faithfulness to my present circumstances. Give me faith to believe that what You’ve done before, You can do again in my life today.
