Devotional
God’s battle plan for Jericho defied military logic. March around the city once daily for six days, seven times on the seventh day, blow trumpets, and shout. No siege engines. No battering rams. No scaling ladders. Just walking, trumpets, and shouting. Imagine being a soldier in Joshua’s army. You might have questioned these unusual tactics. You might have preferred a more conventional approach. You might have wondered if God really knew what He was doing. But here’s the beautiful truth revealed in this story: Victory doesn’t come through understanding God’s commands but through obeying them. Joshua and the Israelites didn’t need to comprehend the strategy; they simply needed to follow it faithfully. God often works this way in our lives too. His directions sometimes seem counterintuitive to our human reasoning. Forgive those who hurt you. Give generously when resources are tight. Serve others when you’re exhausted. Love your enemies. These commands don’t always make logical sense, but they reflect God’s higher wisdom. When we choose radical obedience—following God’s instructions even when they don’t align with our understanding—we position ourselves for supernatural breakthrough. The walls of Jericho didn’t fall because Israel had superior military strength; they fell because God’s people were radically obedient to His commands.
Bible Verse
“When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city.” – Joshua 6:5
Reflection Question
What command from God have you hesitated to obey because it doesn’t make sense to your human reasoning, and what might happen if you chose radical obedience instead?
Quote “When they were radically obedient to the command of God, God was radically faithful to do what he said that he would do.”
Prayer
Lord of impossible victories, I confess that I often want to understand Your ways before I obey them. Forgive my hesitation and reluctance to follow when Your commands don’t align with my logic. Today, I choose radical obedience over comfortable understanding. I trust that Your ways are higher than mine and Your thoughts surpass my limited perspective. Give me the courage to follow You faithfully, even when the path doesn’t make sense to me. Thank You for the victories that come not through my strength but through my surrender to Your perfect will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
