Devotional
It is easy to look at the world and think the problem is out there. Bad influences. Toxic environments. Difficult people. But Jesus pointed somewhere far more uncomfortable. He pointed inward. In Mark 7, the Pharisees were focused on what people touched, what they ate, and whether hands were properly washed. Jesus redirected the entire conversation. The real issue, He said, is not what enters a person from the outside. It is what already lives within. That is a hard truth to sit with. We prefer to believe we are basically good people who occasionally make bad choices. But Jesus named it plainly: evil thoughts, pride, deceit, and more flow naturally from the human heart. Not because we are uniquely terrible, but because this is the condition every person is born into. Here is the encouragement in that honesty: when you finally stop pretending the problem is somewhere else, you are in the exact right place to receive real help. Acknowledging the truth about yourself is not defeat. It is the beginning of freedom. You do not have to keep managing your image or explaining away your struggles. Jesus already knows what is inside, and He came anyway.
Bible Verse
“There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.” – Mark 7:15
