Devotional
Every beautiful dance can be disrupted by someone stepping out of rhythm, and that’s exactly what happened in the Garden of Eden. Humanity chose to stop dancing with God and instead tried to make the dance about themselves. Sin entered the picture not as a list of bad behaviors, but as a fundamental shift in focus – from God-centeredness to self-centeredness. When Adam and Eve chose to eat from the forbidden tree, they were essentially saying, ‘We want to be the center of this dance. We want life to revolve around us instead of around God.’ This choice threw the entire rhythm off. Instead of living in harmony with their Creator, humanity began living for their own glory, their own desires, their own agenda. Every sin since then has had the same root – the desire to make ourselves the star of the show rather than finding our joy in God’s glory. But here’s the beautiful truth that changes everything: while we got out of step, God never stopped dancing. The Trinity continued in their perfect rhythm of love and mutual glorification. The Father didn’t stop delighting in the Son, the Son didn’t stop glorifying the Father, and the Holy Spirit didn’t stop His work of pointing to Christ. God’s dance continued, and His invitation for us to rejoin Him remained open. This is the hope we cling to – that despite our failures and self-centeredness, God’s love and His desire for relationship with us never wavered.

Bible Verse

‘Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.’ – Romans 5:12

Reflection Question

In what areas of your life are you still trying to make yourself the center of the dance instead of finding your joy in God’s glory?

Quote “Every sin is rooted in self centeredness. Every sin has a root in I want the dance to be about me.”

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I confess that I often try to make life about me instead of about You. Forgive me for stepping out of rhythm with Your purposes. Help me to recognize when I’m being self-centered and guide me back to the joy of dancing with You. Amen.
