Devotional

Here is the question beneath the question: Which Jesus are you following? Is it the Jesus of Scripture, the One who calls you to deny yourself, carry a cross, and walk in surrender? Or is it a version you have quietly shaped over time, one who exists to bless your plans, validate your preferences, and give you what you want? This is not a question meant to condemn. It is a question meant to clarify. Because it is easy to follow a comfortable Jesus. It costs nothing. It changes nothing. And it produces nothing. The real Jesus is better than the comfortable version. He is not a servant who exists to fulfill your requests. He is a King who invites you into something far greater than anything you could arrange for yourself. But a King requires surrender, not negotiation. This week, as you walk through the ordinary moments of your life, let this question stay with you. Not as a burden, but as a compass. When you are tempted to react in anger, when you are tempted to chase what the world is offering, when you are tempted to put self back on the throne, ask yourself: which Jesus am I following right now? The answer to that question will shape everything.

Bible Verse

“He called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.'” – Mark 8:34

Reflection Question

In the most honest part of your heart, which version of Jesus have you been following, and what would it look like to follow the real One more fully this week?

Quote

“Determine who you think I am and then determine what you think I’m worth. And set everything else aside that you may know me, says the Lord of hosts.”

Prayer

Jesus, I want to follow You as You truly are, not a version I have created for my own comfort. Set me free from a faith that costs me nothing, and lead me into the life You died to give me. Amen.
